It is the first of a two part article on effective drafting of Qualified Domestic Relations Orders ("QDROs") Part I provides an overview of ERISA and QDRO requirements, describes the basic types of pension plans, addresses the timing and execution of QDROs, and highlights the dangers of relying too much on the assistance of plan administrators.
